The boxed set features a unique timetelling sterling silver fountain pen with an 18 carat gold nib, a collector's edition book, cards, case and gun-smoked scented red ink. Limited to 253 made-to-order pieces, this is a highly collectible must-have for literary Bond enthusiasts, pen collectors and admirers of British design.

Ian Fleming had a structured daily writing routine: “I write for about three hours in the morning – from 9.30 till 12.30 – and I do another hour’s work between 6 and 7 in the evening." This inspired YARD-O-LED's unique new pen design with a built-in precision timepiece.

The pen. The pen has been two years in the making. As founders of Britain’s Bremont watch company, the owners have combined their horological and pen experience to produce an instrument fine enough for Ian Fleming.

A collaboration with Swiss experts ETA SA has resulted in the pioneering fine quartz movement small enough to fit into the cap. The 11mm diameter silver dial has been handmade using traditional engine turning techniques, the sterling silver contrasting with blued steel hands for instant legibility. To maintain each pen’s elegance, a specially developed lateral corrector - one of the smallest ever made - advances the hands electronically. The clock itself is totally unique, with its built-in miniature date and time-setting mechanism.

The Fleming finishing touches. Sterling silver was selected and the team manually engine-turned 72 pinstripes onto the hallmarked cap and barrel to honour Fleming’s sartorial pinstripe tailoring. The sterling silver grip has been meticulously engraved with a set of jacks, spades, hearts and clubs symbols, referencing the theme of Casino Royale. The base is finished with an inlaid gold doctor bird, the symbol of Ian Fleming who described them as the “most beautiful bird in Jamaica, and some say the most beautiful bird in the world” in For Your Eyes Only. An 18 carat white gold nib completes the design.

The set. Also included are an exclusive new collector’s edition of Casino Royale, a set of unique Ian Fleming playing cards, a leather pen case, and just to evoke a frisson of 007-style tension, there’s also a bottle of blood red ink that releases a realistic smell of gun smoke as it flows onto the page.

Made by. Founded in 1822, YARD-O-LED is Britain’s leading manufacturer of handcrafted sterling silver writing instruments. Based in Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter, every YARD-O-LED pen and pencil is individually crafted by hand using traditional silversmithing techniques. For the Casino Royale pen, the creative team looked back in their archives and discovered a pencil pen from the 1920s that incorporated a miniature clock.

https://ianflemingshop.com/products/ian-fleming-casino-royale-writing-set-fountain-pen-limited-edition-by-yard-o-led
