'Breakfast was Bond's favourite meal of the day. When he was stationed in London it was always the same... Then there were two thick slices of wholewheat toast, a large pat of deep yellow Jersey butter and three squat glass jars containing Tiptree `Little Scarlet' strawberry jam; Cooper's Vintage Oxford marmalade and Norwegian Heather Honey from Fortnum's.'
Chapter 11, From Russia with Love (1957)
Introducing the From Russia with Love Edition, Tiptree Little Scarlet Strawberry Conserve. This special release jam is a delicious dark crimson luxury conserve made from the tiny, rare and intensely sweet Little Scarlet strawberry. The 340g jar has the book's title on its front label, a navy and white polka dot satin ribbon collar - in homage to Fleming's signature bowtie - and an Ian Fleming Publications embossed seal tag. Presented in a cellophane gift bag.
Little Scarlet is a very special strawberry and Wilkin & Sons are believed to be the only commercial growers of this fruit anywhere in the world today, making Little Scarlet Conserve utterly unique to Tiptree. Modern strawberries are unlike the tiny, intensely flavoured fruit of two hundred years ago, whereas the Little Scarlet strawberry never changed. Grown only at Tiptree, the fruit is difficult to cultivate, dislikes extremes of weather and doesn't keep long once picked, but makes exceptionally delicious jam.
Prepared with 60g of fruit per 100g, the conserve is made from sugar, Little Scarlet strawberries, citrus pectin (gelling agent), citric acid (acidity regulator). Vegan, vegetarian, coeliac-friendly, dairy-free.
About the maker. The Wilkin family have been farming at Tiptree, Essex, England since 1757, and making quality preserves there since 1885. The company holds the Royal Warrant as purveyors of Tiptree products to His Majesty, King Charles III, and held the same honour from Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth. Wilkin & Sons Ltd grow a wide range of traditional English fruits and use them to make conserves, condiments and other treats in their nut free factory.
